April 28th Meeting

April 29, 2011 / Parker Toastmasters / Blog
0

Tonight was Eric Dunham’s first try as the Toastmaster, and he did an admirable job in leading the club through tonight’s meeting.

We had two guests tonight – Amy Jordheim visiting from the Lunch Out Loud club, and Elaine Holm, who is considering joining our club.

Amy Jordheim gave a great speech from the Public Relations manual, speech 5 – Crisis Management. “Taken Over!” was from the point of view from a CEO who was announcing a hostile takeover. Caroline Nguyen’s “Cultural Differences Between the West and East” was from her perspective of someone who grew up in Vietnam but now lives in the United States. This was speech 2 from the Competent Communicator manual. Sandy Marthaler gave speech 3 from the CC manual as well, with her entertaining and informative “Inbox Zero”.

Amy and Caroline shared the Best Speaker award tonight.

Bill Morgan was the Best Evaluator.

Paul Johnson had a great table topics idea – he handed out a penny to each speaker. The speaker had to come up with something to say about the year that the penny was made. Every one at the meeting tonight, including our guests Amy and Elaine, participated in Table Topics.

Eric Dunham gave the Best Table Topic, reminiscing about Newton Jr. High back in 1978.

Bill Morgan presented Impromptu Speaking from the Better Speaker series. He included this handout with his speech.

Joel Stevenson finished up the meeting on a strong note as our General Evaluator.
