Hi everyone,

As you’ve probably heard, Eric Dunham is TM for our next meeting. Please let him know if you are interested in giving a speech or fulfilling one of the regular meeting rolls.

We’ve had some really good meetings as of late so hopefully we’ll continue that trend this Thursday. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Best Meeting Yet!

Arguably the best meeting (so far) of 2011 last night. Major kudos to Sandy Marthaler for in creative approach to table topics. Selecting quotes from one of three subject headings kept the discussions lively and provided a great challenge to everyone who participated.

Additionally, Joanna began discussing next year’s officers. If you think you might be interested, I would strongly encourage you to speak to her soon. The new leaders will take office effective July 1 so the selection will have to be at least two weeks prior to that.

Eric Dunham has offered to be the Toastmaster at our 4/28 meeting and I’m looking forward to that. He’s done a great job with his speeches and as Bill noted, he also won Best Evaluator last night.

Thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to another great meeting in two weeks.

April 14 Meeting Report

Paul Johnson was our Toastmaster tonight.

We had an outstanding meeting with nine people attending, including: Sandy Marthaler, Eric Dunham, Caroline Nguyen, Bill Morgan, Joel Stevenson, Joanna Knott, Michele Rose-O’Brien, and our guest Ken Hobbick.

Three speeches were given – Joanna Knott presented “A New CRM”, Bill Morgan spoke of his son Sean in “Cornerstone”, and Michele Rose-O’Brien won Best Speech with “Trying Times of Transition”. As usual, lots of notes were taken during Michele and Joanna’s speeches as lots of good general business knowledge was imparted to an eager audience.

Sandy Marthaler was an outstanding Table Topics Master, with her brilliant idea of having the participants pick quotes on Aging, Beauty or Life. Paul Johnson’s impromptu take on eating and sleep made everyone laugh and think as well, and he won top prize as Best Table Topic. Joanna Knott, Joel Stevenson, Caroline Nguyen, Eric Dunham and our guest Ken Hobbick also participated.

Sandy Marthaler evaluated Joanna Knott’s speech. Caroline Nguyen – in her first evaluation ever – reviewed Bill Morgan’s speech. Eric Dunham evaluated Michele O’Brien’s speech, and he earned accolades as the Best Evaluator.

Joanna Knott, CC, VP of Education, wrapped up the meeting. She encouraged those who are close to push to finish up their Competent Communicator awards before June ends. She noted that the club has already achieved President’s Distinguished club status, but it could achieve even more this year. And last but certainly not least, Joanna recognized Paul Johnson, CC, for earning his Competent Communicator.

Coming back to meetings

Ever had that dream where you haven’t been to class all semester? I’ve had it a couple of times lately and it go me to thinking about coming back to a Toastmasters meeting after you have not been in a while. But unlike that dream where you have to take the final without ever having studied the material, no such standard exists with us.

If you have not joined us for a meeting in some time, don’t let that stop you. We’re happy to have people back regardless of how long they’ve been away.

As I mentioned in the invite letter for this week’s meeting, we’re a better club when we’re well attended. Some of the best meetings I’ve been to are that way because we’re getting input from so many different people.

In all sincerity, I hope to see everyone at our next meeting.

Paul Johnson
