January 27th, 2014  Parker Toastmasters Leadership Meeting @ 7 pm

Michelle Devore discussed filling roles for an upcoming speech contest and coordinating that with the club contest (2 weeks out).  She also discussed formalizing and improving the mentor program.  She talked about creating a contract for mentorship whereby the mentoree will set the goals.

Todd Williams presented a spreadsheet of the budget.  He discussed using Paypal to pay membership dues, pro-rated membership dues, filling out membership sheets ahead of time with pre-calculated fees.  He talked about the clubs biggest expense so far being the website. Other expenses include supplies.  He also talked about donations and putting new members into the system.

Ashley Jones discussed using a receipt book so they know exactly what members paid.  Making membership kits for the month that include a president’s message, a personal letter, and who the club contacts are.  She also discussed creating a VP or PR brochure to communicate why Parker TM is the best club, personalizing membership kits, and driving new guests to the club.  She wants new members to understand how we developed as well as ask them what they want from their experience.  Ashley discussed improving the efficiency of joining the club.  She also talked about going back to beginning to July of 2013 to try to get in contact with folks who no longer show up.  Ashley and the group also discussed the toastmaster pledge, and new member protocol with awards.

Ryan McGee discussed keeping track of the membership list, written minute protocol, term limits, and keeping minutes for officer meeting for more TM club transparency.

Nikita Kazakov discussed making videos, succession planning for the next leadership team and making more efficient membership sign up.  He discussed streamlining communication and having sign up on the spot with electronic signatures.  He discussed a possible meet up group and Eric Dunham said that that expense could be paid through the district.  He said he would speak with Marcy and find out if we can get meetup.com paid for through the district.  The group talked a little more about promotion suggesting putting flyers in Starbucks and handing business cards to those who are interested in Parker Toastmasters.

Nina Minary updated the leadership team on the goals of the club and what we need to accomplish.  She discussed updating the email list of everyone and improving the agenda.  She discussed meeting protocol of how the toastmaster should be responsible for the word of the day and put it on the agenda as well as communicating speech length and time.

The group discussed open speech and all agreed that speeches should stay open.  Parker Toastmasters is a safe place to fail, learn, and to get back up and succeed.

Eric Dunham talked about upcoming events and possible speech contests and debates in May or early June contest with other clubs.  Eric also suggested conducting toastmaster elections in early April to allow for easy transition.

The group also discussed giving a thank you card and donation of $100.00 to SouthEast Christian Church for their generosity in allowing us to use the room.

The meeting adjourned @ 9 pm.

October 24th Meeting Highlights

It was a great meeting tonight with a theme of Every Day Heroes.

Ryan gave a passionate speech about the heartbreak he endured on Oct 14, 1992 when his Pittsburgh Pirates were defeated by the Cardinals. This was such a terrific speech, earning Ryan Best Speaker! While giving a humorous evaluation, Bruce made it apparent that Ryan succeeded in sharing his tale.

Eric presented a Thank You speech, accepting his Toastmaster of Year 2012-2013 award. His many thanks were to Toastmasters International, Joanna Knott as a mentor and our members/club. Nina offered her suggestions on how to create a fun environment but also encouraged Eric to continue to give wonderful speeches.

Ashley made a historical account of the important role Clara Barton took on in the Civil War. Evaluating Ashley was Nikita and he did a good job to point out what her strengths were while still providing feedback for improvement.

Table Topics carried our theme and members shared their stories about who is their Every Day Hero. It was a nice personal touch to hear members discuss such a beloved topic.

Also we actually had a family as our guests tonight.

Thank you for a great meeting!

We look forward to seeing ya’ll next week.

We had our open house this saturday on August 24th, 2013.  The event was a success with two newscaster guest speakers: Deborah Takahara and Beverly Weaver.  In addition, we had a keynote speech given by our own Elaine Chancellor.  Clubs LunchoutLoud and Castle Rock Toastmasters also joined the open house.

The event brought many guests who were interested in public speaking and the networking opportunity was present.  Way to go team!

nina_minary_imageI am so excited to lead a new group of Parker Toastmaster Officers into the 2013-2014 year! This club has become a great addition to my life in many ways. My personal and professional life has evolved to include many great friends and networking opportunities. I have also gained more confidence in my public speaking and leadership abilities- and I’m finding the more I take on the better I become.

So what does that mean for you? It means that you have a club right here in Parker, Colorado that can help you start to gain confidence in yourself with impromptu speaking, planned speeches, leadership roles in the club and in the community, and have supportive people that turn into friends.

We have produced great Toastmasters such as Janell Ames, Mrs. Colorado 2011, and Alyssa Tenorio, an author of children’s books and many others that have had job promotions or increased their revenue. We have been Distinguished Club for the past three years and we are onto our fourth year to grab that title again. We have an exciting year planned and we need your help. Each of us contributes something great and unique to the world- and we need your skills to make us even better.

Take the time to visit and meet a smiling face every Thursday from 7-8:15pm.

Come see what Parker Toastmasters can do for you!

We attended the TLI session which was held in Lakewood, Colorado.  Our hats are off to our district for setting up a wonderful experience to learn officer roles and to listen to the keynote speaker.  The keynote speaker was Ed Tate, who gave us a glimpse into his methodology of convincing people to say yes.

We decided to take a picture and make it a keeper!
