May 12th Meeting

May 13, 2011 / Parker Toastmasters / Blog
0

Tonight’s meeting was one of the best of the year. There were great speeches which were very informative and engaging, and there was participation by everyone at the meeting.

Bill Morgan was our Toastmaster for the evening. Eric Dunham served triple-duty as Timer, Table Topics Master and Speech Evaluator.

Karen Bennett and Bruce Ekins were our guests tonight.

Janelle Ames, Mrs. Colorado, was our special guest tonight. Janelle talked about how her pageant journey was helped by being active in Toastmasters.

We had five speeches tonight. Caroline Nguyen gave a great speech on the Art of Breathing.  Sandy Marthaler gave an interesting speech on Cell Phone Etiquette. Eric Dunham gave us a lesson on Rules of the West, cowboy hat and all. Joanna Knott presented an informative speech on Manage and Motivate while Michele O’Brien-Rose gave a valuable speech on Making Ethical Decisions, done in the Ignite! style of speaking with 20 slides going every 15 seconds.

It was Michele’s 10th overall speech so she earned her Competent Communicator award, and received a standing ovation for her achievement.

Joel Stevenson, Paul Johnson, Michele O’Brien-Rose, Eric Dunham and Bill Morgan were speech evaluators.

Table topics run by Eric was very innovative. Eric gave pictures from newspaper articles and the speaker had to give a short speech on the subject. Karen Bennett earned Best Table Topics speaker for her great speech about how the fisherman evoked fond memories of her brother. Our other guests, Janelle Ames and Bruce Ekins, also participated in table topics.

Our best speaker tonight was Eric Dunham and our best evaluator was Bill Morgan.

Paul Johnson was grammarian and ah-counter, and the word of the day was Zeitgeist. Joanna Knott did a great job as our General Evaluator.
